Manahil’s Journey from Sudan to Empowerment
Born and raised in eastern Sudan, Manahil Yaghop Musa faced profound adversity from an early age. Conflict forced her out of her homeland in 2007, and at just 16, she was married in 2010. Teen motherhood meant pausing her education, but Manahil’s spirit remained unbroken. Her deep love for learning propelled her back to school, culminating in graduating high school in 2016 and enrolling in an online program at Regis University via the Arrupe Center in 2017.
This trajectory of perseverance laid the foundation for her most transformative initiative yet: co-founding Blossoms of Hope in 2023. Recognizing the struggles many refugee and host‑community women endure, some worse than her own, Manahil felt compelled to act. “I want to do something for women,” she explains, aiming to build an inclusive environment where women hold space at every decision-making table.
Blossoms of Hope centers its work around International Women’s Day and aligns closely with the 2025 global themes: “Accelerate Action” and the United Nations’ “For ALL women and girls: Rights. A flagship project of Blossoms of Hope is the livelihood program, a practical, skills-based approach to financial independence. Around 30 women in Kakuma have received training in investment, income generation, and small business planning. As a result, they now run their own enterprises and make informed financial decisions that affect their families and futures.
